Tip Calculator
Enter the bill, the tip percentage and the number of people to see the tip, the total and what each person pays.
Formula
Tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ number of people.
Example: a $100 bill with a 20% tip split four ways is a $20 tip, a $120 total and $30 per person.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
At US restaurants with table service, 15% to 20% of the bill is common. Tipping is a custom rather than a legal rule, and norms vary by service and region.
Should I tip on the pre-tax amount?
Both are common. To tip on food and drink only, enter the pre-tax subtotal as the bill amount.
How is a split bill rounded?
The per-person amount is the exact total divided by the number of people, rounded to the nearest cent.
