Business Days Calculator
Count business days between two dates, skipping weekends and US federal holidays. Both the start and end dates are included.
Formula
Business days = weekdays (Monday to Friday) − federal holidays that fall on a weekday. When a holiday falls on a Saturday it is observed on Friday, and when it falls on a Sunday it is observed on Monday.
Example: January 2026 has 22 weekdays. Subtracting New Year's Day (January 1) and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 19) leaves 20 business days.
Frequently asked questions
Which holidays are excluded?
The US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Juneteenth counts from 2021.
What if a holiday falls on a weekend?
The calculator uses the observed date: a Saturday holiday is observed on the Friday before, and a Sunday holiday on the Monday after. The list shows the observed dates.
Does it include state holidays, bank closings or company days off?
No. Only the federal holidays are excluded. Banks, courts, states and employers each publish their own schedules, which can differ from this list.
